International Sports Hall of Fame and Stark Center for Physical Culture and Sports join forces

Austin, Texas USA (Feb 20, 2012) The International Sports Hall of Fame (www.SportsHOF.org) and the Stark Center for Physical Culture and Sports (www.starkcenter.org), housed at the University of Texas, Austin, have combined forces. The H.J. Lutcher Stark Center for Physical Culture and Sports, at the University of Texas, will house the International Sports Hall of Fame Inductee plaques, which will be annually given at the Hall of Fame Award ceremonies to at least six athletic legends who will be inducted each March, at a formal award ceremony held in conjunction with the Arnold Sports Festival.The Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival, in its 24th year, is now the largest such festival in the world, drawing to Columbus, Ohio, over 175,000 people who come to watch competitions between approximately 19,000 athletes, representing over 45 sports and physical activities (www.arnoldsportsfestival.com).The athletes being inducted into the International Sports Hall of Fame on March 3rd of this year include, the late Jack LaLanne–Fitness Icon; Arnold Schwarzenegger-7 Time Mr Olympia, movie star and former Governor of California; Randy Couture-World Mixed Martial Arts Champion; Cory Everson-6 Time Ms Olympia; Mark Henry-WWE World Wrestling Champion and winner of the first Arnold Strongman Classic; and Chuck Wepner-the real Rocky boxer the Stallone movies were modeled after.

Drs. Terry and Jan Todd, former champion powerlifters and founders/co-directors of the Stark Center for PhysicalCulture, state:

“The Stark Center, which is part of the Kinesiology and Health Education department, is an official University of Texas Research Center, as well as being one of only two Olympic Research Centers in the Americas. As such, the Center has an interest in all sports and especially, in training for sports and in drug-free sport. With approximately 35,000 volumes, 2200 magazine/journal titles, 100,000 photographs, and extensive holdings in such areas as correspondence, films, alternative medicine, videos, and artifacts, the Stark Center is the largest such collection in the world. We are very excited about this important alliance”. Drs Terry and Jan Todd are also on the Advisory Board for the International Sports Hall of Fame.
