Arnold Schwarzenegger
Austrian and American former professional bodybuilder, actor, businessman, investor, and politician. Schwarzenegger served as the 38th Governor of California from 2003 until 2011 and the most successful Chairman of the Presidents Council on Physical Fitness & Sports in history He also founded the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness & Sports.
Schwarzenegger began to weight train at the age of 15 years old. He was awarded the title of Mr. Universe at age 20 and went on to win the Mr. Olympia contest seven times. Schwarzenegger has remained a prominent presence in the sport of bodybuilding and he has written several books and numerous articles on the sport. Schwarzenegger gained worldwide fame as a Hollywood action film icon. He was nicknamed the “Austrian Oak” and the “Styrian Oak” in his bodybuilding days, “Arnie” during his acting career and more recently the “Governator” (a portmanteau of “Governor” and “Terminator”).
As a Republican, he was first elected Governor of Califonia on October 7, 2003, Schwarzenegger was then re-elected on November 7, 2006, in California’s 2006 gubernatorial election, to serve a full term as Governor, and was sworn in for his second term on January 5, 2007.
Along with his longtime business partner James Lorimer, Governor Schwarzenegger founded the Arnold Sports Festival which is the largest sports festival in the world hosting 18,000 athletes and over 175,000 attendees and the annual venue in the International Sports Hall of Fame Induction Award ceremonies http://www.arnoldsportsfestival.com/.
